Professional Fastening Solutions

Plastic screws are fasteners specially designed to ensure a secure grip in thermoplastic and thermosetting materials, without the need for metal inserts or pre-existing threads.

They are particularly used in the electronics, household appliances, automotive, and technical equipment sectors.

Features and Operation

Thanks to their wide thread pitch and special thread geometry, these screws are able to deform the plastic, creating a stable and resistant coupling without causing cracks in the material.

They are available in 30° or 45° thread versions, depending on the type of plastic (rigid or elastic).

Available Types

The screws are available in different configurations to suit any application requirement:

  • Head: cylindrical, countersunk, countersunk with cap, hexagonal, hexagonal with flange, round head, round head with flange
  • Drive: Phillips cross, Pozi cross, 6-lobe, cross screwdriver combi, 6-lobe screwdriver combi
  • Materials: zinc-plated steel, A2 stainless steel, A4 stainless steel, AISI 410 tempered steel
  • Finishes: white zinc plating, black zinc plating, phosphate coating, and other treatments on request
  • Diameters from 1.6 to 8.0 mm, lengths from 4.0 to 100 mm

Typical Application

  • Assembly of plastic cases for electronics
  • Fastening of technical polymer components (ABS, polycarbonate, nylon)
  • Assembly of internal parts for household appliances and electrical devices
  • Use in the automotive sector for plastic housings and dashboards
  • Industrial assemblies where lightness and strength are required

FAQ – Screws for plastic

Plastic screws are designed with a special thread, with a wide and deep pitch, to ensure a secure grip in plastic materials without causing cracks or damage. They often have a flat or blunt tip and require a pilot hole for installation.

Standard self-tapping screws are designed for sheet metal or thin metal and have an aggressive geometry for cutting metal.

Screws for plastic, on the other hand:

  • Have a wide pitch thread
  • Non-piercing tip (blunt)
  • Geometry optimized for soft materials such as ABS, PP, PC, PA6, etc.

They are suitable for many thermoplastic and thermosetting polymers, including:

  • ABS
  • Polypropylene (PP)
  • Nylon (PA6, PA66)
  • Polycarbonate (PC)
  • Rigid PVC
  • Polyethylene (PE-HD/LD)

The most common configurations include:

  • Cylindrical head
  • Countersunk head
  • Countersunk head with cap
  • Hexagonal head
  • Hexagonal head with flange
  • Round head
  • Round head with flange

With Phillips cross, Pozi cross, 6-lobe, cross screwdriver combi, 6-lobe screwdriver combi.

Yes. To ensure correct installation and prevent cracking, it is advisable to drill a pilot hole slightly smaller than the diameter of the thread.

The depth of the hole must cover at least 80–90% of the length of the screw.

The thread is deep, sharp, and wide-pitch, often with sharp edges to improve anchoring in plastic. Some models also include:

  • Double spiral threads
  • Threads with a hollow core

Plastic screws are generally manufactured in:

  • Galvanized steel (economical, good hold)
  • Stainless steel A2 – A4 – AISI 410 (humid or corrosive environments)

It is generally not recommended to reuse them, as the thread may no longer have sufficient grip after extraction. If necessary, the use of threaded inserts or reinforcement pins is recommended.

Plastic screws are used in:

  • Electronics (cases, PCB supports)
  • Appliances
  • Automotive (dashboards, covers)
  • Plastic consumer products
  • Toys, light hardware

The most common sizes include:

  • Diameters: from 1.6 mm to 8 mm
  • Lengths: from 4 mm to 100 mm
  • Heads: cylindrical, countersunk, domed, flanged
  • Fits: PH, PZ, Torx, hexagonal
