Hex Socket Cylindrical Head Self-Tapping Screws

Thread and Pitch

Hex socket cylindrical head self-tapping screws are designed to create their own mating thread in the material during installation, eliminating the need for pre-threading or tapping operations. The self-tapping thread, extending along the shank, ensures effective penetration into metal materials, providing fast, precise, and stable fastening over time.
The pointed tip facilitates the initial penetration and proper alignment of the screw, improving installation accuracy. These screws are mainly used on sheet metal and metal laminates through simple drilling.
To ensure secure fastening, particular attention must be paid to the diameter of the drilled hole: a hole that is too small does not necessarily guarantee better holding strength and may compromise proper tightening. Drilling tables provide only indicative values, as the fastening performance must always be verified according to the specific mechanical and technical conditions of the application. Self-tapping screws are generally not recommended for die-cast materials or certain engineering plastics.

Head Type

The cylindrical head with hex socket (internal hex drive) allows the use of Allen keys or automated tools, ensuring precise tightening and efficient torque transmission. This design also offers reduced head protrusion compared to external hex head solutions, making it particularly suitable for technical applications or assemblies where operating space is limited. The wide and uniform bearing surface helps distribute the clamping load evenly during tightening.

Description and Applications

Hex socket cylindrical head self-tapping screws are widely used in industrial applications thanks to their strength, precision, and ease of installation.

Typical applications include:

  • aluminium window and door systems
  • curtain walls and cladding systems
  • light metal fabrication

  • mechanical and industrial assemblies

  • technical components and metal structures

Thanks to the combination of self-tapping thread and internal hex drive, these screws represent a reliable solution for fast, secure, and durable fastening, ensuring high stability and precision in professional applications.

Material and Surface

Hex socket cylindrical head self-tapping screws are available in different materials and surface finishes to meet various operating requirements:

  • Hardened carbon steel with white zinc plating, for standard applications with good corrosion resistance

  • Stainless steel A2, ideal for humid or moderately corrosive environments

  • Stainless steel A4, recommended for outdoor or highly aggressive environments

The quality of the materials ensures high mechanical strength and effective corrosion protection even in demanding operating conditions.
