Self-tapping pan head screws with 6-Lobe drive DIN 7981 C – UNI 6954 – ISO 14585-C

Thread pitch and threading

The DIN 7981 C screw features a self-tapping thread extending along the entire shank, designed to allow direct fastening into metal sheets and laminated metal materials by simple drilling, without the need for pre-threading or tapping.

It is available with point and without point, depending on specific application requirements. To ensure secure and stable fastening, it is essential to use the correct hole diameter, avoiding undersized holes which do not improve tightening performance.

Head type

The pan head with 6-lobe drive ensures high assembly precision and allows the transmission of a higher tightening torque compared to other traditional drive types.

The 6-lobe drive, of universal type, is particularly suitable for screws with a diameter of 4 mm or larger; for smaller diameters, its use is less recommended, as the reduced drive depth may cause insertion difficulties and increase the risk of bit cam-out during installation if the screw is not perfectly aligned.

Description and applications

DIN 7981 C self-tapping screws are available in various material options, including:

  • White zinc-plated hardened steel, for standard applications
  • A2 stainless steel, ideal for humid or moderately corrosive environments
  • A4 stainless steel, suitable for outdoor use and highly corrosive environments

The variety of materials ensures high mechanical strength and excellent corrosion resistance.

The screw length is measured from the point to the underside of the head.

These screws are widely used in industrial applications for fastening metal sheets, assembling electronic components, and in metal fabrication, where reliability, fast installation, and tightening precision are required.
